September 2018

The Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies Seedcorn funding allowed me to attend the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) conference in Barcelona, Spain, which took place from 5-8 September 2018. My paper was accepted for a MERC sponsored session entitled ‘…In with the New!: The Future of archaeological research in Medieval Europe’. The session aimed to connect early career researchers from a variety of backgrounds to discuss their new approaches and innovative techniques in archaeology. My paper discussed the research applications of digital imaging techniques in my own work with Scottish early medieval sculpture from the Strathclyde region, demystified the different types of technologies used, and encouraged researchers to engage with these digital tools as they become more accessible. The many social events scheduled through the conference allowed me to expand my professional network, and my attendance at many different sessions provided new perspectives to my own work.
