July 2019

Due to a generous award of £300 from the CSCS Seedcorn Fund, I was able to attend and present a paper at the XVI International Congress of Celtic Studies in Bangor, Wales, from July 22-26, 2019. This conference takes place every four years and brings together Celtic scholars from around the world to present and discuss their research. This year’s conference was attended by over 400 scholars and over 300 papers were presented. My contribution consisted of a paper on Marian devotion in 20th century Gaelic-speaking Catholic communities in the Western Isles of Scotland, and was one of a small number of papers presented in Scottish Gaelic. Attending the conference gave me the opportunity to share my research with a wide range of Celtic scholars, observe good practice from other presenters, and connect with scholars who are conducting research on topics related to my PhD studies.
