Centre for Public Policy welcomes Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli as Senior Fellow

20 February 2026: Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow and leading economist has joined the University’s Centre for Public Policy as a Senior Fellow.
Sir Anton currently serves as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and prior to this was Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow from 2009 to 2025.
He has joined the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Public Policy as Senior Fellow, to support its work connecting the breadth of expertise at the University with policymakers, providing them with the knowledge and evidence to address the challenges facing the world today.
Sir Anton has held several influential advisory roles with the UK and Scottish governments, including Chair of the First Minister of Scotland’s Standing Council on Europe and membership of the Scottish Government’s Council of Economic Advisers.
He is widely recognised as a leading economist in the UK, and has advised numerous national and international bodies, including the European Commission, the World Bank, and the UK House of Commons Treasury Select Committee.
Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: “I am delighted to be a Senior Fellow in the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Public Policy. I strongly believe that the Centre provides a great platform for the University’s world-changing expertise in the area of public policy.

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli’s appointment marks an important addition to the Centre’s growing community of expert contributors.
