CVR staff secondments to NHS, testing facilities & public health bodies

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre

Four members of CVR staff are embedded in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre, where they are supporting diagnostic testing of samples, reporting results to clinicians, and retrieving samples to be passed to the CVR for rapid genomic sequencing.

Support the National Health Service - NHS

Three CVR Clinical Academic members of staff have volunteered to support their NHS colleagues by taking on additional clinical sessions and on call shifts.

Glasgow’s Lighthouse Laboratory testing facility

CVR researchers have been involved in the validation of assays of inactivate virus samples prior to diagnostic tests (PCR pipeline) for the Lighthouse testing facility.

The CVR have provided positive controls (virus-infected cells) for PCR testing at this testing facility.

Supporting the World Health Organisation

The CVR is contributing to the preparation of a World Health Organisation (WHO) global guidance document for sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 and subsequent virus genomic analyses.

This guidance will help maximise the utility and impact of the global response to viral genomic sequencing efforts.

UK Government COVID-19 response

The CVR is supporting UK policy development.

CVR researchers, Dr Antonio Ho and Professor Emma Thomson, have contributed to a report detailing the early estimation of epidemiological parameters and epidemic predictions around COVID-19 that has helped shape the UK government’s COVID-19 response.
