Anita J Prazmowska, Proffessor of International History, London School of Economics gives the lecture on: Ignacy Paderwski and His Legacy
Paderewski’s name is usually associated with music but, like many Polish artists and intellectuals, he could not avoid dealing with the Polish national cause. Unlike many, however, he had an opportunity significantly to affect the creation of the new state after 1918. He and Pilsudski are considered the architects of modern Poland, though his contribution has been overshadowed by the latter, whose personality dominated interwar politics. This lecture will redress the balance by examining the lasting impact of Paderewski’s activities at Versailles in 1919 and its continuing relevance within contemporary Poland.
