In this exhibition, cell biologist and artist Professor Dan Jay uses biological stains from his own lab, and Black 3.0 – the blackest acrylic paint on the planet – to make works that express the wonder of the universe and its creation. Inspired by images from the Hubble and James Webb Sky Telescopes, as well as explorations of world religions, the dyes used in these images include phenol red, xylene cyanol and malachite green, the latter of which was used by Jay to develop chromophore assisted light inactivation to understand how proteins function in cells. The images bring us back to the wonder and awe of contemplating creation and how we imagine our higher power.
