Students will carry out an extended, individual and in-depth research project within one of the key areas of medical physics. In undertaking this project, students will draw on their knowledge of key concepts and theories learned in other parts of the MSc in Medical Physics programme, and apply these concepts to an original piece of research.

Students will work on their project fulltime over the summer and have regular meetings with their supervisor.

Assessment

■ Dissertation will be of 15000-20000 words with verification via viva where appropriate (70%) [ILOs 1,2,3,4,5,6]

■ Oral Assessment and Presentation: Poster Presentation (20%) [ILOs 6,7]

■ Supervisor report (10%) [ILOs 1,2,4,7]

1. Provide an opportunity for the student to apply their knowledge of key concepts and theories developed in the taught part of the programme to carry out original research in an area of medical physics

2. Develop problem solving abilities, critical assessment skills and communication skills to a level appropriate for a professional medical physicist

3. To employ these skills in preparing substantial masters-level dissertation and to further communicate their work orally, and via a poster presentation
