Course Aims

■ To compare and contrast legal research methodologies including: comparative legal methodology; historical analysis; doctrinal approaches; socio-legal studies 

■ To encourage a critical understanding of the following schools or approaches to legal analysis: Law and Economics; Law and Society; Critical Legal Studies 

■ To explore key debates over Legal Pluralism and Legal Monism in the context of Municipal Legal Systems and the International Legal Order

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Demonstrate an understanding of and basis in interdisciplinary legal research

■ Demonstrate an critical understanding of current theoretical debates and approaches in the field of legal methodology

■ Compare methodologies of legal research
