Testimonial from 2019 CLMC Student Gilang

CLMC was an eye-opening experience that helped me reconnect with my inner child and opened life-changing opportunities. I am grateful to have had the chance to join the program. What started as a master’s became another family that spans across continents, one that I will hold dear for a lifetime. The diverse people I met have cemented that all experiences are precious and always worth listening to.

Whether it be academic or professional, the program gave me a solid foundation for whichever career path I would take when I finished my master's. Thanks to the program's multinational structure, I was given the opportunity to study across disciplines, from traditional, classic paper and book children’s literature, to new children’s media and the social and cultural discourses surrounding them. I was able to learn about film and audiences through my semester-long internship at the Cinema in Sneakers (Polish: Kino w Trampkach) in Warsaw, Poland. I later used the same skills I learned during that time to work on audiences and identity for my dissertation in Aarhus, Denmark.

The foundations that CLMC has provided me played an immense role in my current funded PhD position at the University of Surrey, where I am researching adult audiences from the global south, identity, and Disney media.
