Research title: An Observation Study of Mathematics Pedagogies in Chinese Kindergarten.

Research summary

I'm currently doing a research on preshool math education in China.

There is an obvious paradox in Chinese preschool maths education. Previous studies showed that Chinese preschool teachers’ beliefs regarding maths teaching are progressive, emphasizing a play-based approach and valuing children’s development and experiences. However, their practice often falls short of expectations and fails to effectively promote the development of children's maths abilities. However, there is still a gap in research that combines Chinese preschool teachers' perceptions and practices regarding maths education. Therefore, this study will explore the transition process from beliefs to practices among preschool teachers in China when implementing mathematical activities.

This research will focus on Chinese context to determine the following research questions:
How do Chinese preschool teachers' beliefs match to their practices in maths activities?

Research Objectives:
To explore the modes used by Chinese teachers in delivering preschool maths education.
To investigate the factors influencing the transition process from beliefs to practices among Chinese preschool teachers.
To determine the challenges encountered by teachers in delivering preschool maths education in China.
To provide support and recommendations for preschool teachers in mathematical education practice.
