Research title: Investigating activation of intracellular immune signalling pathways following exposure of oral epithelia to oral bacteria

Research Summary

Microbial invasion of the gingival epithelium is a key step driving chronic inflammation and immune dysregulation in oral and systemic tissues. At epithelial barriers, Serum Amyloid A (SAA1) has diverse functions, including opsonisation of bacteria, regulation of TLR-signalling and regulation of cell-mediated immunity. Our aim is to investigate the differences of bacterial invasion and host response in the presence and absence of SAA1.
