Research title: Public transport and social welfare: The impact of bus connectivity on employment outcomes for low-income populations

Research Summary

Eric's research examines how changes in public transport connectivity, particularly bus services, shape employment outcomes and social welfare among low-income populations in the UK. With buses serving as a crucial link between people and opportunities, his study seeks to understand how service reductions or improvements affect access to jobs, income stability, and well-being over time.
Using a mixed-methods and spatially informed approach, He combines longitudinal public transport timetable data from the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) with administrative and survey datasets, including DWP Stat-Xplore and Understanding Society. Through advance accessibility and multilevel modelling, spatial statistics, and quasi-experimental designs, the project will evaluate the social and economic consequences of transport policy reforms and governance models in transportation. This will draw informed comparisons and effect between public-driven approach and market-driven approach in bus transport systems.
