Three supporters of the refurbishment of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will be awarded honorary degrees by Glasgow University on 21 June 2006

Three major contributors to the refurbishment of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Lord Provost Liz Cameron and philanthropists Sir Tom Hunter and Donald Kahn, will be awarded honorary degrees by the University of Glasgow. The conferment of the degrees will take place at the annual Commemoration Day ceremony, on 21 June 2006.

For over six years Lord Provost Liz Cameron has played a major role in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum refurbishment, particularly in her role as Convener of Glasgow City Council's Cultural and Leisure Services committee when the Kelvingrove New Century Project began. She has also served as a Trustee of the Kelvingrove Refurbishment Appeal Fund.

Philanthropists Sir Tom Hunter and Donald Kahn have both contributed to the refurbishment. In particular, an initial contribution of £1.6million from The Hunter Foundation has established a new world-class educational wing at the Gallery, The Campbell Hunter Education Wing.

Glasgow University Principal, Sir Muir Russell, said of the graduands: "Their involvement with the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is just one example of the ways in which these individuals continually support the dynamic development of Glasgow as a cultural city."
