University of Glasgow to host the cream of international scholars

Outstanding international graduates from six countries have won highly competitive Scottish International Scholarships to study at the University of Glasgow

Outstanding international graduates from six countries have won highly competitive Scottish International Scholarships to study at the University of Glasgow.

The programme, funded by the Scottish Executive, will be managed by the British Council, and is aimed at graduates in the science, technology and creative industries. It offers scholars the opportunity to study at a higher education institutions in Scotland.

Eight out of the 22 successful scholars will study either full or part-time at Glasgow. The University is set to welcome the new students - from as far afield as China, India, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa - in October.

Welcoming the announcment, Professor Andrea Nolan, Vice Principal for Learning and Teaching said: "The University is delighted that 8 of its students have been successful in achieving one of the highly competitive Scottish International Scholarships funded by the Scottish Executive.

The scheme is an excellent initiative to bring world-class students to Scotland and to promote the high quality of Scottish education around the world. "

The Scottish International Scholarship Programme has awarded place to 22 scholars from China (9), India (6), South Africa (2), Australia (2) Singapore (2) and New Zealand (1). Scholars for 2005-06 will be placed across a range of Scottish institutions.
