Eminent vet professor to visit the University to present biennial lecture

The faculty of Veterinary Medicine will hold the biennial Sir William Weipers Memorial Lecture today, Wednesday 11 May. The prestigious occasion is one of the largest public lectures held in the University, and celebrates the contribution of Sir William Weipers to the veterinary profession.

The speaker for this year's event is Emeritus Professor Lance Lanyon. Professor Lanyon held the post of Principal of the Royal Veterinary College between 1989 and 2004, having previously held posts as a graduate of the University of Bristol.

Professor Lanyon will be speaking about "Sex and exercise: Common Pathways, Different Outcomes." His lecture will explore the biological background and therapeutic implications of the relationship between bone strength, exercise and estrogen in humans and animals.

The lecture will take place in Lecture Theatre One of the Boyd Orr Building on University Avenue, between 6.30pm ヨ 8.30pm. A buffet will be provided.

The Sir William Weipers Memorial Lecture coincides with the official opening of the Henry Wellcome Building for Comparative Medical Sciences on Thursday 12 May. Sir Dominic Cadbury, Chairman of the Wellcome Trust, will officially open the new building at 11.30am in the Animal Health Technology Complex.
