Dean of Physical Sciences to join UK research council

Prof David Saxon, Dean of Physical Sciences, has been appointed as a Council Member of The Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC). Prof Saxon will hold the post for three years.

The CCLRC is one of eight UK research councils and is one of Europe's largest multidisciplinary research organisations supporting scientists and engineers across the world. It operates world-class large-scale research facilities, provides strategic advice to the government on their development and manages international research projects in support of a broad cross-section of the UK research community.

Professor Saxon also leads the Glasgow Experimental Particle Physics Research group, is Research Awards Convener of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and is chairman of the Institute of Physics in Scotland.

Professor Keith Burnett (University of Oxford) and Rear Admiral Philip Greenish (Royal Academy of Engineering) were also recently appointed.

Sir Graeme Davies, Chairman of the CCLRC, said: 'I welcome the three new council members and look forward to working with them. They bring unique and independent experience that will help the Council steer the CCLRC through future challenges, ensuring that it, and the UK, continue to lead the world in scientific research'.
