Mr. Yoshiji NOGAMI discusses 'Japanese Foreign Diplomacy' at the University of Glasgow Business School on Monday 9 June at 6.00pm

As part of a Japanese initiative at the University of Glasgow in conjunction with the Europe-Japan Social Science Research Centre and the Japanese Embassy in London, Mr Yoshiji Nogami will give the first of a series of lectures under the title, 'Europe-Japan Dialogue'.

Mr. Yoshiji NOGAMI, former Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, is currently Senior Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He will talk about the Japanese economy and Japanese foreign diplomacy.

You are invited to take part in the discussion which will take place in the Lecture Theatre in the Business School in the Main Building at 6.00pm on Monday 9 June. It should last about one hour and there will be an opportunity for questions at the end.

After graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1969, Mr. NOGAMI joined the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he served as deputy director general of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs (1991-93), deputy director general of the Foreign Policy Bureau (1993-94), Consul General of Japan to Hong Kong (1994-96), Ambassador of Japan to OECD (1997-99), and Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs (1999-2002).

He was co-chairperson of the multinational Middle East peace negotiations in 1992-94. He is currently Senior Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, and an expert on Japan's policy towards the Middle East.
