The ballot for strike action in higher education has opened. The ballot will run until Friday 28 November.

UNISON University of Glasgow members will start to receive their ballots through the post as of October 20th. The branch encourages all members to vote YES on the ballot. Under the Trade Union Act 2016, the ballot must reach a threshold of 50% of branch members to be considered valid.

To ensure that you receive your ballot, please double check that your postal address details are up to date on My UNISON. You can also request a replacement ballot by visiting MyUNISON or by calling the helpline on 0800 0 857 857 between 28 October – 12 noon on 20 November.

The ballot for industrial action follows the rejection by the joint higher education unions of UCEA's 1.4% pay offer for 2025/26.

The UNISON Higher Education Service Group Executive (HESGE) is running a disaggregated ballot of members in those universities covered by the New JNCHES pay bargaining arrangements (other than in a small number of branches where membership is limited).

The other unions including UCU will be running a ballot on a similar timeline with the aim that any action agreed by the higher education unions will be organised jointly.

For any further information on the ballot, please email unison@glasgow.ac.uk
