Future Creatives showcases student-led work comprising film screenings, live music performances, theatre shows, new writing, sonic art, curatorial interpretations, innovative audiovisual projects and poster displays.

The event is open to all and offers a chance for students, staff and external partners from Scotland’s cultural and creative sectors to celebrate, connect and network.

This year’s programme includes short films co-created by students and community organisations through the School’s partnership with GMAC that explore themes of mental health, LGBTQ+ visibility, music accessibility and community resilience.

There are also film screenings from the MSc Filmmaking and Media Arts programme, featuring work by Emma Malins (Picture This), Fan Yiman (Nonsense), Jamie Thompson (Odd), Matthew Dunsmore (The Many Deaths of a City), Minghao He (Echo) and Tianci Zhu (Limbo).

Live music performances showcase the work from students of the ‘Song, Singing and Vocality’ course and from the BMus programme with students showcasing an eclectic range of original work and pop, jazz and experimental performances.

Theatre contributions include a live reading of Eggshells a new play examining alcoholism and family dynamics developed by Matthew Taylor on the MLitt Playwriting and Dramaturgy programme which will be directed by Philip Howard, as well as two new theatre shows, Mind The Gap and (Dis)Connect from Undergraduate students of Theatre Studies.

Spoken word and new writing from the MLitt Creative Writing present work from Annie Baker, Dearbhla O'Brien, Endija Lukstina, Leilani Taneus-Miller, Liv Aldridge, Shaun Murawski and Véronik Le Duc. These writers bring perspectives shaped by mental health work, bilingual performance, photography and transnational experience.

To complete the programme, there are poster displays, demonstrations of video games, PowerPoint and website presentations and a rich collection of audiovisual essays and projects from students of Cultural Industries, Film & TV Studies, Music and Theatre Studies.

To wrap up the programme, Katie Duffy, Head of Art and Music at Glasgow Life and a UofG Music graduate, will deliver the keynote address, before and after which there will be an opportunity for all registered attendees to get a complimentary refreshment and discuss the events of the day. A DJ set from Subcity Radio will play us out.
