A progressive pride flag

You may have seen a number of versions of the Pride flag used by different individuals and organisations.

Here at UofG we use the progress pride flag, which uses the rainbow alongside black, brown, blue, pink, white, a yellow triangle and purple circle. We use this as the most up-to-date and inclusive version of the Pride Flag to better represent and reflect the incredible and diverse student body we have at the University of Glasgow.

Developed in 2018 by non-binary American artist and designer Daniel Quasar, the Progress Pride Flag is based on the iconic rainbow flag from 1978. The redesign celebrates the diversity of the LGBT+ community and calls for a more inclusive society.

Wondering what section of the flag represents? Here’s what they mean;

  • Red - Life
  • Orange - Healing
  • Yellow - Sunlight
  • Green - Nature
  • Blue - Peace/Harmony/Art
  • Violet - Spirit
  • Black & Brown Chevrons - People of Colour
  • Pink, Blue & White Chevrons - Transgender People & Gender Non-Conforming Individuals
  • Yellow Triangle & Purple Circle - Intersex Community
