Published: 8 January 2026
The Technician Commitment Steering Group is pleased to announce the launch of TCMN Connect – the Technician Commitment Managers & Leaders Network, a new initiative designed to bring together technical managers and leaders from across all colleges and University Services. This network will foster collaboration, share best practices, and strengthen the visibility and recognition of technical leadership within the University.
As part of the University’s Technician Commitment Action Plan, we are excited to introduce TCMN Connect – the Technician Commitment Managers & Leaders Network. This cross-college initiative aims to create a stronger, more connected technical leadership community, ensuring that technical expertise continues to drive innovation and excellence across the University.
Who is TCMN Connect for?
The network is open to technical managers, chief technicians, facility managers, and IT technical managers from all colleges and University Services. Whether your work involves laboratories, workshops, IT systems, digital infrastructure, or specialist facilities, TCMN Connect offers an inclusive space for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
What will the network do?
- Share Expertise: Bring together technical leaders to harmonise best practices and identify opportunities for joint initiatives.
- Foster Collaboration: Improve resource efficiency, advance sustainability, and support staff development.
- Drive Innovation: Deliver bi-monthly meetings, knowledge exchange sessions, joint training initiatives, and collaborative projects to align policies and promote innovation.
Our Aims:
- Promote cross-college collaboration to enhance technical service delivery.
- Develop and share best practices in technical operations, health and safety, sustainability, and staff development.
- Support the Technician Commitment by improving visibility, recognition, and career development for technical staff.
- Identify opportunities for shared resources and expertise across colleges.
How will it work?
The network will operate with a rotating Chair and Co-Chair, representatives from each college and University Services, and optional working groups on themes such as training, sustainability, and digital tools. Advisory members from P&OD, Estates, and SEPS will be invited as needed.
This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen collaboration and enhance the impact of technical leadership across the University. Together, we can build a more connected, innovative, and sustainable technical community.
