Supporting the UofG Research Strategy
The Strategic Research Initiatives team works with colleagues across UofG to understand the research landscape, identify key opportunities, and shape institutional strategies to deliver our research ambitions. We coordinate several initiatives designed to strengthen institutional responsiveness to the changing research landscape and capitalize on our core institutional strengths.

Strategic Funder Foresight Group
We coordinate the Strategic Funder Foresight Group, comprised of members of UofG staff who make strategic contributions to our key funders. The Strategic Funder Foresight Group is chaired by our Vice Principal for Research and Knowledge Exchange and serves as a collegiate forum through which to horizon scan and share insights that could help advance the University’s strategic goals.
Data Dashboards
In collaboration with the Planning, Insights and Analytics team, we work to develop data dashboards to interrogate sector funding trends and UofG positioning. We welcome collaboration with UofG research leaders on how best to leverage this information to support strategic decision-making across our schools, colleges and institution.
Horizon Scanning and Planning
We chair regular meetings for research development specialists across the university to share information on key funding opportunities and discuss options for UofG to engage. We maintain records on interest in strategic calls, demand management requirements and information sharing pathways to facilitate responsiveness to funding opportunities.
Thematic Insights
We compile information on funder priorities and our positioning within the sector with respect to these priorities. We assess institutional strengths, competitor track records and indicators of funding availability to identify opportunities for UofG leadership and engagement.
