The Glasgow Crucible
The Glasgow Crucible is an annual leadership development programme designed to engage emerging research leaders from all disciplines in developing a considered approach, as part of their continued development. Covering concepts central to good research leadership, and underpinned by our Research Culture priorities, the Glasgow Crucible offers you time out to evaluate your skills, attitudes, experiences and interactions with others, and to set goals for your future.
Taking our cue from the University of Glasgow Research Strategy, this is a highly collaborative programme that will enable you to develop meaningful connections across and beyond the institution.
Through the Glasgow Crucible, you will:
- Gain awareness of the skills, attitudes and behaviours that are required for good research leadership, in a contemporary research culture.
- Develop new network connections to foster the potential for future interdisciplinary ideas and collaboration opportunities.
- Evaluate the social, economic, cultural and systemic implications of your research, and your actions as a research leader, your impact on the world.
- Discover ways in which you can be more creative as a research leader.
- Join a strong network of emerging research leaders.

Who Can Apply?
The programme has been tailored to develop senior Postdoctoral Researchers, Research Fellows and new (Research and Teaching) Lecturers from all academic disciplines. It focuses on the needs of staff who have research as a substantive component of their role.
There are 30 places available each year.
To be considered for a place we require that you have submitted at least one external application for research funding (any funder), which may or may not have been successful.
To be considered for a place you must agree to the Crucible Code of Practice.
Past participants on any internal or external Crucible Programme are not eligible to apply.
