Funding Scheme Updates & Funder Statements

This section contains all scheme information and funder statements we are aware of related to the cuts to ODA research funding. We will add more information as it becomes available.

UKRI

UKRI has been subject to a 48% cut to its 2021-22 committed expenditure budget.

The calls below have been cancelled:

National Institute for Health Research

NIHR has been subject to a 28% cut to its ODA research budget.

The Royal Society

The Royal Society will not be funding any new ODA-funded grants in the coming year. Its ODA research budget has been reduced by 68%.

Royal Academy of Engineering

The Royal Academy of Engineering is working on the implications of ODA cuts to its research programme.

The Academy of Medical Sciences

The British Academy

The British Academy has confirmed that existing grants will not be terminated or reduced but they will not be making any new ODA research awards in 2021-22. Their ODA research budget has been cut by over 70%.

Innovate UK

All information for the KTN, African agriculture knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2020 to 2021, round 5 has been removed from the KTN website of Innovate UK. While nothing definitive has been posted, this suggests this call has been cancelled.

The British Council will not be running any Newton Fund calls for the coming year and is working through the impacts of ODA research cuts. Their budget has been reduced by 66%.

UK Space Agency

The UK Space Agency will not be running any of their 2020 projects past this initial stage, nor will it be running new calls in 2021-22 for its international partnership programme.
