Funding

If you are applying for a research grant, we recommend costing engagement and impact activities into your proposal.

There are also sources of internal funding available; funding depends on amount required, audience targeted, researchers involved and subject area.

Internal Funding at the University of Glasgow

Knowledge Exchange Fund
Conditions: funding for promoting KE with research. Should demonstrate the expansion of research field. Nurture capacity and impact of KE.

MVLS Engagement Funding
Conditions: for MVLS staff and postgraduate students only

Chancellor's Fund
Conditions: projects that have an impact across the University and wider community.

There may be additional funds available at your school or College level. Speak to your head of school and colleagues to explore alternative options.

External Funding

Research Councils
Examples: BBSRC, STFC, ESRC, EPSRC
Conditions: Often built in at grant proposal stage. For example BBSRC look for around 1% of grant money to be spent on engagement. Consider including public engagement in your Pathways to Impact.

AHRC Follow-on Funding for Impact and Engagement provides funds to support innovative and creative engagements with new audiences and communities (£30-100K, no deadline).

Charities
Examples: Wellcome Trust
Conditions: Various levels of funding available. Activity dependent.

Professional Bodies
Examples: Institute Of Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry, Royal Society of Biology, The British Psychological Society, Royal Academy of Engineering
Conditions: Subject dependant. Various categories dependent on audience and amount requested.
