Annual Quality & Enhancement Review

  • is an essential element of the University’s Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement processes.
  • allows Schools, Colleges and the University to ensure that the courses and programmes we deliver meet the expectations of staff and students
  • continually look for opportunities to develop and enhance provision.
  • closing the feedback loop and ensuring that actions and outcomes are reported to colleagues and students.

The management of Annual Quality & Enhancement Review is devolved to Colleges and is managed locally by School and College Quality & Enhancement Officers.

The Process

The process which is in place for the review of learning and teaching during 2024-25 is set out in the Timescales document below.

Proformas

Templates and supporting guidance for Annual Quality & Enhancement Review (AQER) reports are provided below. The School AQER form (AQ&ER1) should be used for reporting at course, subject and School level. The form has been updated to reflect developments in the Scottish quality landscape, support a more data-informed approach to AQER, and encourage more explicit reflection on the student experience, evidence and impact. Guidance has been produced to support the preparation of returns this year but please do get in touch if you have any further questions.

The updated College AQER form (AQ&ER2) is in development and will be uploaded in August 2026.

Good Practice

Annual Quality & Enhancement Review is about assuring quality and importantly, it’s also about ensuring the University is continually enhancing its provision. A key element of enhancing our practice is learning from each other.

The best practice identified in the Reports are shared with Academic & Digital Development.

Outcomes

Academic Standards Committee receives each of the College Annual Quality & Enhancement Review Report Summaries and produces a report of these, addressing two topics, What Went Well and Themes for University Attention.

  • Summary of Reports considered by ASC in November 2022 (to be updated)

Responses to the Themes for University Attention are reported back to ASC later in the session.

  • Relevant ASC Minute Extracts (to follow)
