Award recognition for work on new University developments

University of Glasgow Clerk of Works have been recently awarded the ‘Building on Quality’ Award for their work on the JMS Learning Hub and ARC.

University of Glasgow Clerk of Works, Derek Johnston and Brian Rodger, were recently recognised for their involvement in the construction of the James McCune Smith Learning Hub and the Advanced Research Centre (ARC). 

The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) held its 16th ‘Building on Quality Awards’ gala dinner and awards presentation at the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin, on Saturday 14th May 2022. The award winners were selected from amongst a shortlist of 15 nominees. 

Derek Johnston, who received a ‘Highly Commended’ award from the ICWCI for his efforts on the ARC said: “I have been working in the University for over 30 years and have had the great privilege to be involved in the development of quite a few our campus buildings. Working on the ARC has been the most exciting so far and I was delighted to receive the award not only for myself but also on behalf of the University.” 

Brian Rodger, who received a ‘Commended’ award from the ICWCI for his efforts on the James McCune Smith Learning Hub said: I am delighted to be recognised by the ICWCI for my contribution during the construction of the JMSTH. I would like to dedicate my award in memory of the late Terry Millar, who was a fellow colleague at the University as well as a member of the ICWCI.” 

Chair of the Judging Panel, Meredith Whilden FICWCI said: “The quality this season has been exceptional, and I think higher than ever before.” 

On Derek Johnston, Ms Whilden said: “Derek is a Clerk of Works whose enthusiasm for what he has achieved is evident when visiting this project” 

On Brian Rodger, Ms Whilden said: “We have commended Brian as Clerk of Works on the project as he was fully involved throughout the entire duration, was at the forefront of negotiations and worked closely with the contractor, designers, and the University.”
