University outlines a more flexible approach to parking
Whilst many people will continue working from home for at least part of the time, others will be working on campus and may wish to avoid travelling on public transport. A more flexible approach to parking is therefore required.
In response to this, we are introducing some changes to parking arrangements on campus and seeking to ensure additional capacity in the vicinity.
Current Permit scheme
The University’s parking permit scheme is currently suspended and will remain so until the end of the calendar year. Arrangements for 2021 will be confirmed in due course along with details for permit applications, as appropriate. ‘Blue Badge’ permit holders can continue to park on campus under the current scheme’s terms and conditions.
Introduction of new parking scheme (1st August to 31st December 2020)
From 1st August 2020 parking on campus will be booked on a daily basis. A new ‘day permit’ has been introduced for which all staff members living outwith a 2 mile radius of the campus are eligible, subject to availability. The cost of these permits will be £2 for a full day pass and £1 for a half day (09:00 – 13:00 and 13:00 – 17:00), Monday to Friday. Parking outwith these times will continue to be free of charge and not be subject to any permit.
The arrangements as outlined above will apply, but at Garscube there will be no 2-mile restriction.
3. Tay House
Staff who have a permit to park either at Tay House or the adjacent Elmbank car park will be contacted separately to advise on arrangements for these locations.
4. Other locations:
Additional car parking capacity is being secured at the Gurdwara Temple, the Bowling Club, Berkeley Square and Vinicombe Street. Full details of these locations will be published on the Car Parking web pages as soon as arrangements have been confirmed.
We are also in discussion with the City Council about access to other car parks in the vicinity.
Please note that parking at Lilybank Gardens car park will no longer be available under the revised permit scheme for the remainder of this year. Anyone wishing to park there must use Glasgow City Council’s pay and display machines at their daily rates.
In order to book a space from 1st August 2020, staff will need to create a day pass permit in advance using the link from the Car Parking website. This link will be available on the parking web page from Monday, 27th July.
Follow the instructions on the link to create the permit. The parking team will process this and inform you when your permit is ready to use.
Once the permit is confirmed, day bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Payments will be made online using a debit/credit card.
All car parks will continue to be monitored on a daily basis and checks will be carried out on all vehicles parked in our parking facilities. If a space has not booked via the online system and a vehicle is parked in one of the designated locations, then the owner may be served a parking charge notice.
We must continue to ensure that the campus and the other parking facilities are safe for pedestrians and other users so cars MUST be parked in marked parking bays.
Visitor parking will continue to be provided under the terms of the current scheme, with bookings payable online either by card payment or by budget code.
