It's the Scottish Boat Race this weekend with the Glasgow University Boat Club hoping to beat their 'auld enemy' Edinburgh in what's thought to be the third oldest such competition in the world.

Show your true colours and support us in the 139th Scottish Boat Race!

All University of Glasgow students and staff (and their families) are invited to support the #BlackAndGold of Glasgow as we take on the University of Edinburgh in the 139th Scottish Boat Race on the banks of the Clyde at the Riverside Museum on Saturday 21 May 2016, 10am to 6pm.

This year we have partnered with the Riverside Festival to make this FREE event even better with our Scottish Boat Race Festival and a full programme of events & fantastic riverside views of all the action including:

  • Main stage with live music & DJ's | big screen showing morning family movie | followed by all 9 races beamed live
  • Refreshments provided by Heverlee VIP beer garden | fish plaice oyster bar | main bar + more
  • Street food provided by on rotation gourmet rotisserie | Julie’s Malaysian kitchen | the fish plaice + more to be announced
  • Full children’s entertainment programme including morning movie on main stage led screen | a wide range of sport activities | face painting + many more family friendly fun to be announced!

The Edinburgh Glasgow Boat Race will see some of the country’s top student athletes in action.  Featuring eight highly competitive races, the Scottish Boat Race will bring together the excitement of a historic rowing rivalry with a fantastic festival atmosphere; marquees, a public bar, a giant TV screen and plenty of family-friendly events will be available throughout the day.

The event does take place outside, so please dress for the weather that day!

University of Glasgow Sport

It is expected that the city will be unusually busy on Saturday as the Scottish Cup Final is also taking place at Hampden Park featuring that other Glasgow versus Edinburgh rivalry - Rangers / Hibernian - with a 3pm kick off.
