Sport & Recreation has eagerly awaited the opening of the Stevenson building extension to increase the space available for all the sports offered. The extension will open in Autumn 2015 and includes a new Activity Hall, Cardio Vascular equipment floor and a Muscle Conditioning floor. We will also be converting space in the current Stevenson building into further exercise studios to expand class, course and club training.

Along with the physical changes to facilities Sport & Recreation will be modernising membership categories. From September 2015 new full access categories will replace all current categories of membership. These new categories will modernise our memberships, offer full access to all our members and provide a competitive offering for students, staff, graduates and the community to participate in sports and exercise.

Student Memberships

Full time and part time credit bearing students of the University of Glasgow will have a full year membership option available from September for £100. For the first time, all students will also have the option to purchase a semester only membership for £75 which will be valid for the Autumn, Spring or Summer periods.

Students living in University operated Halls of Residence will continue to benefit from membership included as part of their accommodation package.
 
Staff Memberships

Staff employed directly by the University of Glasgow will have the option for a yearly membership costing £180. Payment by Payroll Mandate or Direct Debit costs £15 per month.

Affiliate Staff will be categorised under the GUConnect programme and have the option for a yearly membership costing £300. Payment by Direct Debit costs £25 per month.

Staff have access to all facilities and activities other than club sports.
 
GUConnect Memberships

GUConnect is a new membership category which includes various categories of University affiliates which previously created a confused membership matrix. The modernised category includes:

• All Centre for Open Studies Students (no credit requirements)
• Access students
• Affiliate Staff
• Retired staff
• Graduates
• New Graduates
• Immediate Partner and Family of existing members

GUConnect membership costs £300 per annum. Payment by Direct Debit costs £25 per month.

New Graduates will continue to benefit from a first year after graduation reduced rate of £15 per month by Direct Debit.

GUConnect has access to all facilities and activities other than club sports.
 
Community Memberships

Community membership is a new category open to the general public.

Community membership costs £360 per annum. Payment by Direct Debit costs £30 per month.

While limited to 400 individuals it provides access to all facilities and activities other than club sports.

Garscube Only Memberships will remain available with annual, Direct Debit or Pay Monthly options. 

Existing Memberships

All existing members will be contacted through June and July with specific details of membership conversion.

A first year discount will be made available to members in some categories which will cease and wish to convert a new membership category. First year discounts will also be made available to existing Retired Staff and Affiliate Staff members.
