Importance Tags and Note Fields

Importance Tags

Please prioritise the items on your list. If you do not tag items, the Library will not be able to buy any essential books/e-books not in stock.

Importance Tags (Essential, Suggested for student purchase, Recommended and Further) can be used to prioritise items in your list, for example, to indicate essential or recommended texts for the students.

The Library also uses the Importance Tags to inform purchase and provision of Library resources in accordance with the Course Materials Policy and the Accessible and Inclusive Learning Policy.

For items tagged as Essential/Suggested for student purchase the Reading Lists @ Glasgow service will look to obtain in electronic formats texts not already available online. This will include digitisation of chapters under the Copyright Licencing Agency’s digitisation licence when an e-book cannot be obtained. Print will be purchased for the High Demand Collection, where no electronic version is available.

For items tagged as Recommended/Further/no importance defined, no texts will be purchased either in print or electronic formats.

To add the importance tag while bookmarking your resource, choose the appropriate level from the drop-down menu in the pop-up window.

To add an importance tag to resources already added to your list, or to change an existing tag, select Importance not set on the right-hand side of the resource and choose the importance level from the drop-down menu.

Notes for Library

The Note for Library can be used to alert the Library to anything relevant, e.g. title not in stock, title to be added to High Demand Collection, or more copies required.

You should also add a note to this field if you require any book chapters or journal articles to be digitised.

You have the option to add a note for Library while bookmarking a resource when you choose Create & Add to List.

The Library has an e-preference model. If a suitable e-book is available, it will be purchased instead of any additional or new print copies for essentiual texts. For Further/Background/Recommended reading, Academics are encouraged to utilise the Library's existing collection of 1.5 million e-books and extensive print collection.
