Responding to Staff Feedback: Course and Programme Approval Process Redesign
Published: 30 April 2025
For some time now, colleagues have provided feedback through a range of fora, on the course and programme approval process. We are therefore pleased to announce that colleagues from across the Colleges, Professional Services and the SRC have come together to form a working group to redesign the University’s course and programme approval process.
For some time now, colleagues have provided feedback through a range of fora, on the course and programme approval process. We are therefore pleased to announce that colleagues from across the Colleges, Professional Services and the SRC have come together to form a working group to redesign the University’s course and programme approval process.
The group, co-chaired by Dr Jessica Bownes, Learning & Teaching Strategy Manager, and Professor Wendy Anderson, Assistant Vice-Principal for Learning & Teaching, has begun updating the processes, policies, and guidelines in response to consultations conducted over the past three years. Ambitions are for a new approach to curriculum approval that is streamlined, rigorous, and empowers students to help meaningfully shape the curriculum at UofG, as well as supporting staff to design innovative and evidence-based programmes and courses.
Work is in the early stages and will undergo extensive review, including from critical friends beyond UofG, and will be subject to formal scrutiny and approval through Academic Standards Committee and Education Policy and Strategy Committee before launch. Colleagues will be kept up to date via the L&T Newsletter with developments and will be invited to give feedback on the new process as it is developed.
Staff and students are also very welcome to contact the group co-chairs (Jessica.Bownes@Glasgow.ac.uk and Wendy.Anderson@Glasgow.ac.uk) or the Learning & Teaching Strategy Unit (Amanda.Sykes@Glasgow.ac.uk) with any questions they may have.
