E-mailing groups of students (The CLASS service)

The class email system should not be used to advertise commercial services to students or otherwise contravene the University IT regulations:

About

  • The CLASS service allows you to email all students or selected groups of students
  • The underlying lists of students are kept up-to-date automatically
  • You do not need to know any names or student numbers, only how to select the group of students that you want to reach
  • Messages to large numbers of students and messages from certain categories of sender are automatically directed to postmaster@glasgow.ac.uk for approval before being sent out

How to find course codes

How it works

Send your email to an address in the format "class--COURSECODE"@glasgow.ac.uk

For example, to email all students registered on the course Law 1B, which has the course code LAW1002, use the email address "class--LAW1002"@glasgow.ac.uk

The system is not case sensitive so you can use upper or lower case.

Modifiers

  • Use the + symbol to include multiple course codes
"class--LAW1002+LAW1005"@glasgow.ac.uk will reach all students registered on LAW1002 and all students registered on LAW1005
  • Use the & symbol to include multiple selection criteria
"class--U_1&F_ARTS"@glasgow.ac.uk will reach all first year undergraduates in the College of Arts
