Instructions for new users

Go to UofG's MathWorks portal

  • Click Sign in to get started
  • Sign in with your GUID and password
  • Click Create a MathWorks Account
  • Complete the profile form using these details:
  • Email address: Your UofG email (must end @glasgow.ac.uk, @student.gla.ac.uk or @research.gla.ac.uk)
  • Password: Do not re-use your GUID password here, choose something different
  • Other fields: Your details
  • MathWorks will now send you an email to verify your email address. Go to your inbox and click the link: Verify your email

You will be taken directly to the MATLAB download page where you can download your preferred version. The versions are listed by release name only eg R2018b, R2018a, R2017b, etc.

Instructions for existing Mathworks account holders

You can link your existing MathWorks account to your GUID to access your free license.

Your existing MathWorks account must be registered to your UofG email address (@glasgow.ac.uk, @student.gla.ac.uk or @research.gla.ac.uk). If it isn't, you can change the email on your MathWorks account by editing your profile.

AFTER your current MATLAB license expires:

  • Go to UofG's MathWorks portal
  • Click Sign in to get started
  • Sign in with your GUID and password
  • Click sign in to your existing MathWorks account
  • Sign in with your existing MathWorks account details
  • Your free license should now be applied automatically

Mathematica

A computational software program used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical and computing fields, based on symbolic mathematics.

Install on your device

  • Free individual licenses are available to all staff and students for personal use
  • For both staff and students, please follow the installation guidance

Installing Mathematica

  • visit the Wolfram website to start the installation steps
  • type in your University e-mail address
  • select the required operating system from the drop down list (will automatically start downloading installation file in your web browser)

NB: on requesting a download, you will receive an e-mail introducing you to Cloud Services.  Please note, the University's license does not currently cover this functionality, so after the 60-day trial use of cloud services they will be illegal.
