IT essentials for remote study
You will need:
A computer or laptop (PC or Mac) with internet access, operating with:
- Windows 10
- Mac OSX High Sierra (10.13) and above
We recommend your device should have a minimum of 8GB of RAM.
You’ll be able to access lectures and classes on mobile and tablet too, but having a keyboard will make it easier for you to complete your work.
Broadband connection with a speed of 3 Mbps or higher.
Speakers, headphones, and microphones
You’ll need these to hear any audio during online lectures and classes and also to participate in online discussions and seminars.
Your laptop or computer will probably have built-in speakers and a microphone, but you might want to consider getting a headset with a microphone if you think you could be disturbed by background noise when studying.
All University of Glasgow students have access to Office365, which includes software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
Glasgow Anywhere Desktop gives you remote access using your own device to the same programs, applications, and files you would have when logging in on campus.
Moodle is compatible with any standards-compliant desktop or mobile web browser.
