Check your storage
Log into Microsoft 365 using your UofG email address and password
Select OneDrive from the list of Apps
- In the bottom left corner of your OneDrive window, you will see your storage and how much of your allocated space has been used
- The amount of storage shows as a link; select this. A list of the largest files in your OneDrive, sorted by size, will be displayed
- Select files to delete

- Highlight the files you wish to delete by selecting the button on the left side of the file name. You can select multiple files.
- Select the Delete button to remove them. You will be asked to confirm if you want to send the items to the Recycle bin. Select Delete.
- Shortly after, you may receive an email from SharePoint Online informing you that files were deleted recently from your OneDrive, and that those files are now stored in your Recycle bin
- Next, delete files from your OneDrive recycle bin
Select files to delete via File Explorer
Alternatively, you might find it easier to delete files and/or folders using File Explorer.
- Open the File Explorer folder on your device and select your University of Glasgow OneDrive folder
- You can navigate through and select the files and folders to delete from OneDrive
- Next, delete files from your OneDrive recycle bin
Delete files from OneDrive recycle bin
Deleted files left in your Recycle bin, still count towards your storage allocation, and these should also be deleted from the Recycle bin to free up space.
- On the left-hand menu in your OneDrive window, select Recycle bin
- Select Empty recycle bin located at the top of the page
- You will be asked to confirm if you want to delete the items from the recycle bin, select Yes
- Refresh the window/page
Once refreshed, in the bottom left corner of the window, you will see that your Storage used number updated with the permanent deletion of all files from your Recycle bin.
