William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Gaignat sale through his agent, Jean-Baptiste Dessain, for 54 livres 4 sous;  see 'Dessain-Hunter correspondence' (University of Glasgow Library, MS Gen. 36, f.26r).

Binding: France, 18th-century blue morocco decorated with triple gold fillets, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  red silk bookmark.   Size:  208 x 142 mm.
Leaf size: 203 x 135 mm.
Annotations: Many early marginal “nota” marks, all washed out.
Decoration: Initials supplied in red or blue(?), a few with pen-flourishing;  all are washed out, with considerable bleeding onto facing page;  paragraph marks supplied in red or blue(?), also washed out.
Imperfections: Wanting 1/3 and the first and final blank leaves.
