Commercial Services is made up of six key areas: Catering & Events, UofG Sport, Print, Accommodation, The UofG Shop and the University Nursery.
Director of Commercial Services
I lead the Commercial Services team at the University of Glasgow. With over 200 colleagues, Commercial Services is at the heart of campus life. We are the trusted choice to provide the first-class goods and services that support the University community, whether that be students, staff or visitors to Glasgow. Prior to joining the University I spent more than fifteen years in high street retail with the John Lewis Partnership, whilst outside of the day job I am a trustee and vice chair of a fledgling Ayrshire charity.
In striving hard to offer an exceptional customer experience, my focus is also on doing so in a way which enables our team to give of their best, and in a way which generates reputational and financial value for the University.
I lead a team of 80 employees, with a further 60 colleagues supporting our significant and varied activity programme. We are based at the Stevenson Building and Garscube Sport Complex and use a number of other facilities across Glasgow to facilitate our diverse programme. At UofG Sport we are focussed on enhancing lives every day through an active and balanced lifestyle. Through our team, our programme, facilities and now online, we genuinely can – and do – make people's day and positively impact on their lives.
I have worked at the University in a number of roles over a 20-year period and previously at the Scottish Institute of Sport as a coach, and the UK Strength & Conditioning Association as a tutor and assessor. I'm passionate about supporting activity in its broadest sense, encouraging our team and our customers to have fun and be active at whatever level suits them or they aspire to. We are committed to delivering an outstanding customer experience and playing a key role in facilitating positive student and colleague wellbeing.
Director, UofG Sport
I am the General Manager of GU Heritage Retail Ltd, a university-owned company which runs the shops on the University campus and online, including at the Hunterian Art Gallery. We also supply branded clothing and merchandise to University departments, societies, conferences and events. My background is in bookselling and museum & gallery retail and I'm an active member of the Association for Cultural Enterprises, chairing their Talking Shop events in Scotland.
The retail team numbers around twenty people, made up of experienced retailers, University of Glasgow students and recent graduates. Our focus is on excellent customer experience and selling well-sourced, quality products at a good price. We love meeting students and visitors from around the world, and welcoming them to campus. All profit from our operations is donated to the University each year.

Catering & Events
University of Glasgow Catering & Events looks after all our restaurants and delivers large conferences, weddings and events from the sales process right through to delivery. We have eight restaurants at the University, with one of those at the Garscube estate and one at our Dumfries Campus. We're working hard on setting up all the new restaurants in the new campus development, with the JMS building scheduled to open in January 2021.
I lead everything that relates to Catering & Events throughout the University of Glasgow. I've been at the University since January 2019 and come from the private sector. I started after University as a trainee stockbroker for Barclays at Tay House. I got bored very quickly and was really keen for a big change so I quit and joined Cunard on the QE2 to start my catering career and have never looked back.
I have an absolute passion for delivering seamless, genuine and considerate service through people, and nothing gives me greater pleasure in life than seeing people leaving a venue with nice memories they will keep forever.
Director, Catering & Events
I have worked for the University for many years and worked in many roles and locations within the print environment. I worked as a litho printer, prepress operator and the Supervisor of the Graphics team while at Strathclyde University. As part of my role, I've had additional responsibility for IT, which involved buying and maintaining computer and print equipment. I was the Area Safety representative for the combined print units of Glasgow and Strathclyde universities. All these roles and responsibilities have been customer-facing and that has allowed me to gain a large amount of experience of the needs of staff and students in a university environment.
Since 2011, I have been the Print Unit Supervisor. I have used all the experience gained over the years to shape and deliver a print service tailored to our customers' needs. This is constantly evolving, and my goal is to deliver the very best product and service possible and to allow our staff the freedom to grow and input into that service.

I lead the University of Glasgow Accomodation Services team. We offer the full "University of Glasgow" experience! Offering accommodation to over 3,000 students, with 24/7 access to dedicated University support and direct access through Residence staff to University Student Support Services. There are a variety of flat and room types available and most new students are guaranteed accommodation if they ask for it! Membership of UofG Sport is included in your accommodation and this opens a door to great student activities as well as fantastic fitness and wellbeing facilities.
University of Glasgow accommodation is available close to our Gilmorehill Campus, on the Garscube campus and at the Dumfries campus. Bills are always included so students know what they are budgeting for and the team and I work hard to give our students a comfortable, safe and enjoyable stay. We recognise that a student's first year in university accommodation can be their initial transition from home life to independent living and we work to ensure that this time is the best it can be!
