International Family Network
The University of Glasgow warmly welcomes the families of our international students.
The International Family Network (IFN) was created to provide you and your family with access to the information you need when settling into life in Glasgow. We aim to create a community for international families to support each other by hosting events and day trips.
International Family Network Events
Trips around Glasgow and surrounding cities
We have hosted trips as a great opportunity for families to meet and travel together, and to visit places of interest around Scotland. Past events have included day trips to Culzean Castle and Country Park, the New Lanark World Heritage Site, and a visit to Santa’s Grotto — with presents!
IFN Welcome Event
Each semester, we have hosted an IFN Welcome event for new international students. During these sessions, we discussed key aspects of settling into life in Glasgow. Attendees received important information about schools and childcare (e.g. nurseries), accessing NHS services, driving, and Glasgow Life.
What students say
"The trip was awesome, we toured amazing tourist sites/attractions at St. Andrews (such as the Cathedral and the Beach) and Ansthruther, explored cultural dishes and overall, it was quite interactive."
"A chance to explore a new place in scotland and meet new people."
"Huge thanks to the team that put together the Culzean Castle trip! It was a rewarding experience for me and my family. My 4 year old told me on our way back... "Mummy am so happy" and when I asked why, he said "because I had fun all day and I played ball."
"I want to say my sincere gratitude to you and your very kind colleagues for the day trip to Culzean Castle. It was a very nice experience for me and my family. Amazing nature, fresh air, and of course, strong wind at the beginning of the trip. Especially it was a great opportunity for my wife, who is alone in Glasgow, to expand her social network."
"All the sessions were informative and very helpful in our journey as a family of international students. I love that this team made an effort to invite the local library spokesperson."
"'twas quite an amazing experience, perharps, one of the best tourist experience for my study visit at the UofG, Yeahhh! A day off books with fellow int'l students was truly refreshing, I had fun!"
