The Afterlife of Mary Queen of Scots Symposium
Thursday 2 February 2023
10.15am - 4.00pm
Book here to watch live
This symposium is designed to complement the University of Glasgow led research project mapping the presence of Mary Queen of Scots items in Scottish heritage collections, aimed at understanding how Mary’s legend has impacted on Scottish society and culture, and the resulting major new exhibition exploring the cultural afterlife of Scotland’s most controversial monarch and her posthumous reputation, currently on show at The Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow.
The symposium will explore evolving attitudes within our cultural institutions around material culture and locations associated with Mary Queen of Scots. It will also reflect on the advantages and challenges inherent to the new approach adopted when considering the many Maries uncovered by the research project and exhibition.
This online event will be live-streamed from the University of Glasgow campus.
