Friends are invited on a private visit to Mount Stuart, with Head of Special Collections, Alice Martin. This awe-inspiring gothic revival masterpiece, which is a feast for the eyes and mind, is home to the Bute Collection, one of the foremost private collections of artwork and artefacts in the United Kingdom. It is especially notable for its British portraiture from the 18th and 19th centuries, Italian masterpieces from the 16th century, and Dutch and Flemish Old Masters. The collection also houses a varied group of archives, books, furniture, silverwork and porcelain, reflecting the interests of various generations of the Bute family over the past 500 years.

The visit will also include the opportunity to view this year’s exhibition North Briton, Scottish Identity before and after Union featuring some of the highlights of the Bute Collection, including their most recent discoveries as well a chance to privately view highlights from the special collections.
