Bruce Adamson, Scotland’s former Children and Young People’s Commissioner, has joined the University of Glasgow’s School of Law as Professor of Practice.
Bruce Adamson, who served as Scotland's Children and Young People's Commissioner from 2017 to 2023, has been appointed Professor of Practice at the University of Glasgow's School of Law.
During his time as Commissioner, Adamson tirelessly championed the rights of children and young people across Scotland. He led successful campaigns for legislative change on issues such as the age of criminal responsibility, the physical punishment of children, and the incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law.
Adamson also focused on issues such as child justice, mental health, and poverty. He supported children as human rights defenders and developed strategic litigation initiatives.
In his new role as Professor of Practice, Adamson will draw on his over 25 years of experience in international children's rights, law, and activism to teach and inspire students. He is also a qualified lawyer in three jurisdictions and has served as an advisor to intergovernmental organizations.
Adamson's appointment will be announced on 3 October at a joint event on the Rights of the Child hosted by the University of Strathclyde Institute for Inspiring Children's Futures and the University of Glasgow School of Law.
The event will feature internationally renowned child rights lawyer and Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Professor Ann Skelton.
