ARC public; Social Sciences hub
Date: Wednesday 13 May 2026
Time: 16:00 - 17:00
Venue: Advanced Research Centre
Category: Public lectures, Academic events
Speaker: Heather Dewey-Hagborg
Artist and biohacker Heather Dewey-Hagborg explores the possibilities of genomic technologies through her boundary-pushing work. From creating portrait sculptures using discarded genetic material collected in public places to staging interspecies opera, her work sits at the intersection of art, science and ethics, challenging how we understand privacy, technology and what it means to be human.
After the talk stay for a chat over drinks with fellow attendees.
Plus – join us the evening before for a thought-provoking introduction to the themes explored in this ARC Conversation at a screening of Heather's short film 'Hybrid – An Interspecies Opera' + audience Q&A.
Based in New York, Heather Dewey-Hagborg works at the intersection of art, science and technology, using her practice to explore how research can be used to question the present and to imagine possible futures.
