Alumni around the world get together to celebrate their connection with the University. Representatives from the University attend these social events to meet with and grow our esteemed network of graduate, current and future students.
Singapore: World Changing Medicine from Glasgow to Singapore reception

Alumni and friends from the Singapore medical community met at the British High Commissioner’s residence to hear presentations by our own Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak and President of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, Professor David Galloway, on precision medicine.
Hangzhou: Zhejiang alumni association launch event

Zhejiang Alumni Association was officially launched before 50 alumni and friends. Professor Jane Duckett, International Dean for East Asia, updated the audience with the University’s recent developments. Dr Xiang Li, Alumni Manager, gave congratulations on behalf of the Development & Alumni Office and invited local alumni to revisit our beautiful Gilmorehill campus. Changsha: Hunan alumni association launch event

Over 50 alumni and friends attended this launch event, along with Professor Jane Duckett, International Dean for East Asia, and Dr Xiang Li, Alumni Manager. We heard about the campus development and learned how we can stay involved with the University. Board members led an unforgettable ceilidh, finishing with a nostalgic Auld Lang Syne. Bangkok: Thailand Alumni Association gathering

Around 20 alumni and staff gathered for the first meeting of the University of Glasgow Thailand Alumni Association. Guests heard about recent developments at the University and joined in a panel discussion on the career paths of a selection of distinguished alumni. Special thanks go to committee members for all their hard work.
Shenzhen: Shenzhen-Guangzhou alumni association launch event

Nearly 150 alumni from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau got together in Shenzhen for this exciting launch. Along with a small UofG delegation, alumnus Martin McDermott (LLB 2002), First Secretary of Scottish Affairs at the British Embassy, also attended. Alumni heard about the University’s recent developments, enjoyed delicious food and drink, played a University-themed puzzle game and made many new friends.
Mumbai: Connections with Scotland event

Staff joined colleagues from universities across Scotland and their respective alumni guests at a special panel event held to coincide with the visit of a delegation including Deputy First Minister of the Scottish Government John Swinney. The event was designed to maintain and develop India’s links with Scotland.

The British Columbia Alumni Association hosted students from Glasgow just starting their Study Abroad year in Vancouver, at the Sage Bistro. Alumni enjoyed the excuse for a get-together and the students learned lots about the area from the locals.

Thirty alumni from Scottish universities gathered at Mackey’s Public House for a post-work social. Professor Lee Cronin, Regius Chair of Chemistry, was there to meet with the Glasgow contingent, and plans were laid for future DC gatherings.

Graduates and friends gathered to celebrate a significant birthday of alumna Kay Boardman’s (MA 1964) husband Derek. The group, including five more 1960s alumni, celebrated with curry and pints and many stories of the old Shish Mahal.

Austin: Austin alumni association event

The Austin Alumni Association welcomes all Scottish university alumni to meet monthly on Thursday nights, alternating between a Western and Northern city location. In December, ten alumni were joined by Jessica from the Alumni Office for a social evening at the Grove. And who happened to be at the next table by chance but another Glasgow graduate. Washington DC: Scottish Universities Burns Supper

Almost 170 alumni and friends from Scottish universities gathered at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel for a fabulous night celebrating the Bard and their links to Scotland. Alongside the traditional toasts and haggis-eating, there was ceilidh-dancing, whisky-tasting and a Scottish-themed photo booth. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.

A 60-strong group of alumni, friends and prospective students gathered at the Omni King Edward to celebrate the Bard with UofG. Clark McGinn (MA 1983) offered his wonderful Toast to the Haggis and Immortal Memory, a delicious meal was enjoyed, and dancing ensued. An impromptu singalong of traditional songs rounded off a lovely evening.

The Hilton Back Bay Hotel hosted 80 alumni, friends and prospective students for their UofG Burns celebration. The crowd was delighted by Clark McGinn’s (MA 1983) toasts, and the dancefloor was packed with ceilidh dancers of varying skill levels. Auld Lang Syne resonated loudly from the ballroom to finish off the night.
