Laurel Brenton moved from New York state to Glasgow to study veterinary medicine. Laurel Brenton moved from New York state to Glasgow to study veterinary medicine. She tells us about the close-knit community she found at the Garscube campus.

So, why Glasgow?
The vet that I worked for in New York was a Glasgow vet and she was the one who convinced me to come here.

Is it a supportive community?
I think that our students are awesome. In second year my father passed away and I had to take time out. While I was at home my entire year wrote a card and mailed it to me. It was really nice to get a card signed by 200 people. We definitely support each other in our happy moments and our sad moments.

And inspiring?
I think Glasgow vets are going to take over the world.

Tell us about the vet community
It is the most diverse programme I've ever been on. The vet community is tight – the school really works to make sure that we get to know each other. And the different years are really good at mingling with each other and getting clubs going.

What’s the best piece of advice a fellow student has given you?
You’re going to deeply regret it if you don’t hang out with the Scottish kids!
