Early Career Scholar – Felipe Machado

Felipe Machado, who received a John Templeton Early Career Scholar Fund, talks to Craig Smith (Professor of the History of Political Thought at the University of Glasgow) about how the Fund enabled him to further explore his interests in cognitive science and the ideas of Adam Smith during the latter’s tercentenary year.

Although his background is in science and engineering, Felipe’s combined interest in cognitive science, moral philosophy and political economy inspired him to apply for the Fund.

Thanks to the Fund, Felipe was able to participate in workshops during Tercentenary Week in Glasgow, and present at the International Adam Smith Conference in Tokyo.

The John Templeton Early Career Scholar Fund was set up with the University of Glasgow to support the next generation of Smith scholars. It enabled academics working on Adam Smith or exploring ideas rooted in the Smithian tradition to attend and present at global events during the tercentenary.
