Communication and Engagement Manager, University of Glasgow College of Arts and Humanities, involved since 2021
Kevin has been an amazing partner of Glasgow Science Festival bringing arts and music content into the programme. Initially Kevin was involved in delivering 'Sound Thought' at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, but in more recent years has supported other researcher to deliver activities and events as part of the programme.
'I help support public engagement with research, but I am also a practitioner of public engagement myself, delivering activities around sound and music.
During my PhD I was doing experimental music practice and as part of that I was always organising events and concerts. I got invited to contribute to Explorathon in 2019 and historically there weren’t as many arts or cultural researchers taking part in that event. Taking part and contributing to Glasgow Science Festival has had a great impact on my career, I was able to gain further experience in both supporting and delivering public engagement activity. Gaining this experience alongside other public engagement events such as Explorathon, eventually got me to my current position at the University of Glasgow.
One of my favourite festival memories is the Dear Green Music Scene music festival. We first held the festival outside in 2024 and of course, being Scottish summer it started to rain. But we were super prepared, everyone had ponchos, so we sat outside in the downpour and the band played on!'
