College of Arts and Humanities international internships

The College of Arts International Internship programme is open to current University of Glasgow Honours and Postgraduate students.

College of Arts and Humanities students can apply for an internship at one of the following institutions:

  • University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong - Hong Kong
  • Museum of Fine Arts Houston - Texas, USA
  • National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution - Washington DC, USA

We especially encourage students with backgrounds in Art History, Museum Studies, Information Studies, Archaeology, Creative Industries and Cultural Policy to apply, but welcome interest from anyone within the College.

Internship projects at host organisations are usually tailor-made depending on the needs of the organisation, as well as the student's interests and course requirements. For example, interns may focus on curatorial training and project-related research, education, outreach, or digital applications.

Internships are normally expected to last 4-6 weeks and are non-credit bearing.  
 
This is a great opportunity for students to experience working with cultural institutions abroad would help them to apply knowledge gained in the UofG, to widen their personal and professional horizons, to develop professional experience, and to engage in CV building activities.
 
Throughout their internship, students can expect to:

  • Build self-awareness, interpersonal skills, team working, flexibility and adaptability
  • Enhance cultural awareness and intercultural communication skills
  • Enhance practical work skills relevant for their field
  • Increase sector knowledge
  • Reflect on potential dissertation topics 
  • Improve problem-solving skills through innovative thinking and planning, organisational and/or communication skills
  • Build an international professional network

Eligibility

Please note that this internship is only available to current University of Glasgow Honours and Postgraduate students in the College of Arts & Humanities. You will not be able to take up this internship after you have completed your degree at Glasgow.

  • 6 March 2024 (for internships taking place during Summer 2024)

Funding

Participants may be eligible to receive Turing funding to help cover some of the costs. More details will be provided to successful applicants.
