Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? Not applicable
Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below.
Course Aims
The aims of this course are:
■ to further encourage students to take responsibility for developing their own Gaelic language skills - both written and oral - and to identify new strategies for doing so.
■ to encourage students to read as widely as possible in Gaelic, particularly in relation to the media, Gaelic language bodies and government bodies.
■ to provide opportunities for students to improve their written and spoken Gaelic, particularly in relation to contemporary issues.
■ to increase students' awareness of Gaelic usage, particularly in the media, internet and by offical bodies.
■ to support students in becoming confident and highly articulate communicators in Gaelic.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
At the end of this course students will be able:
■ to communicate effectively, confidently and with a high degree of accuracy in Gaelic in a wide range of registers, both orally and in writing.
■ to accurately translate texts of a high level of difficulty into Gaelic.
■ to concisely and accurately summarise Gaelic texts in Gaelic
■ to write pieces of sustained prose in Gaelic on contemporary issues.
