Biography

I also have an interest in outdoor education and embedding play experiences in the outdoor learning environment. My own enquiry into outdoor learning has also inspired an interest in fully embedding Learning for Sustainability into my teaching.

I joined the University of Glasgow as a Teaching Associate for the Centre for Teaching Excellence in October 2025 in a seconded post.  I am currently working as part of the Rural and Learning for Sustainability hub which is located on the Dumfries Campus of the University of Glasgow. I am excited to be part of this new project and look forward to sharing the Centre's developments with other practitioners.

I graduated from Glasgow University in 2014 with a degree in MA Primary Education and went on to work in my home Local Authority of Dumfries and Galloway. I have experience of working in small rural schools as well as a large urban 2 -18 learning campus. I have also had the opportunity to teach in an International School in Romania delivering a curriculum based on Curriculum for Excellence. When not working with the Centre, I teach Primary 1/2 in a semi-rural setting.

In recent years, I have had lead change within my own school setting as Acting Principal Teacher. As part of this I have completed Dumfries and Galloway's Introducing School Leadership course and Education Scotland’s Aspiring to Middle Leadership. These have helped develop my understanding of the importance of practitioner research and enquiry.

Research interests

A keen interest of mine is the development of Play Pedagogy. After 8 years of teaching Second Level classes, I was asked to teach a play-based curriculum in a Primary 1 class. Through engagement with the Local Authority Play Pedagogy team, I was able to develop my own knowledge and understanding of Play. I have since used my own experience and research to share good practice with other practitioners. Working with the Centre for Teaching Excellence is allowing me to devleop my understanding of how to take Play Principles and embed them into the Outdoor Learning environment.

I am currently completing a course on Leading Sustainability in School Education by the EU Academy.
